About

Nina Guo is a high soprano based in Berlin. She is interested in the sounds and music of recent and ongoing times. Her performance practice encompasses the interpretation of notated music, improvisation, and collaboration on interdisciplinary projects. Radio and humor play a significant role in her work. She performs in Duo Unit with bassist Edward Kass and recently appeared in Jennifer Walshe’s opera Mars for Irish National Opera.

Joseph Houston is a British pianist based in Berlin, whose performance practice encompasses contemporary and experimental music, late 19th- and early 20th-century piano repertoire, music for alternative keyboard instruments, and his own compositions. He is a member of the Saviet/Houston Duo and has performed with Octandre Ensemble, Phonetic Orchestra, Harmonic Space Orchestra, Boulez Ensemble, Ensemble Berlin PianoPercussion and Ensemble KNM Berlin.

Plus Minus is a UK-based group dedicated to commissioning new works alongside modern and landmark repertoire. Formed in 2003, the group focuses on performative, electroacoustic, and conceptual pieces, Plus-Minus explores experimental works, including Stockhausen’s 1963 classic, after which the ensemble is named. The ensemble was resident at University of Edinburgh from 2019 to 2025 and in recent years has performed at Whelan’s (Dublin), BBC studios, Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon), MINU festival (Copenhagen) and Klangspuren Schwaz in Austria.

Plus Minus presents a concert of works tracing the ensemble’s unique range of interests - from alternative notions of music theatre through to the micro-investigation of sound and high-concept approaches to contemporary music making. Two UK premieres by Jennifer Walshe and Joanna Bailie will join new pieces especially written for the group by Newton Armstrong and James Weeks.
